The law on official statistics was approved in 2017 and amended in 2022.

It regulates the organization and operation of the unique system of official statistics, establishes the legal framework for the development, production, dissemination and coordination of official statistics. It also contains provisions regarding the fundamental principles of official statistics, professional independence, statistical data quality management, expanding access to administrative data sources to reduce the burden on respondents and other elements aimed at strengthening the national statistical system.

The draft law on official statistics was developed by the National Bureau of Statistics in order to harmonize national legislation with the EU acquis in the field of statistics (Regulation (EC) no. 223/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of March 11, 2009 on European statistics, published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJ) No. L 87/164 of 31.03.2009, the Code of Good Practice of European Statistics, adopted by the European Statistical Committee on 28 September 2011).
