Definition and concepts
Unsafe drinking water, unsafe sanitation and lack of hygiene are important causes of death. According to WHO methodologies, when estimating this indicator, only the impact of diarrheal diseases, infections, intestinal infections and malnutrition with energy proteins is considered. As well, according to WHO, by adequate provision of WASH services additionally to diarrheal, the following diseases could be prevented: malnutrition, intestinal infections, lymphatic disorders, trachoma, schistosomiasis malaria.
